In 2022, the China National Space Agency (CNSA) extended a unique opportunity to member states through the Asia Pacific Space Cooperation Organization (APSCO) to send a student-built payload to the Moon onboard the Chang’e 6 mission. Pakistan’s Institute of Space Technology (IST) answered this call with a proposal for a Lunar CubeSat named “ICUBE-Qamar” (or simply “ICUBE-Q”). After a thorough assessment, IST’s proposal got the green light, signifying a significant achievement for Pakistan’s space program.
Mission Overview & Objectives:
ICUBE-Q weighs approximately 7 kg and carries two optical cameras to image the lunar surface. Its primary mission objectives include:
